چکیده

The dynamic response (i.e., acceleration and displacement) of a bridge under vehicular load is an important component of design and evaluation. Field measurement of girder displacement, however, is generally nontrivial. Traditional sensors often require a stationary reference such as temporary scaffolds or a suspended cable. In either form, there are added costs, restrictions, and labor. As a result, there are both economic and practical incentives for developing methods that can use an accelerometer to measure both acceleration and displacement. One difficulty of this, however, is the presence of small low-frequency errors in the measured signal, which become sufficiently large through successive integrations and lead to a significantly distorted displacement profile. The objective of this article is to examine an analytical model based on the state-space approach for minimizing such errors and to compare results with two time domain correction methods. Field measurements from a threespan continuous bridge are used to assess the accuracy

A methodology for Determining the Seismic Vulnerability of Old Concrete Highway Bridges by Using Fragility Curves

Past earthquakes have demonstrated that old RC bridges may be seismically vulnerable. Bridge responses during the last decades illustrated the necessity of the seismic assessment of bridges especially those which were designed with old codes. In this research an existing concrete bridge representative of the most common bridges in the highway system in Iran are studied. Push over and nonlinear ...

Input and State Estimation for Linear Discrete-Time Systems without Direct Feedthrough

The classical Kalman filter (KF) is an effective approach of state estimation for linear discrete-time systems, but classical KF is applicable only when external inputs are measured. So far, some studies of Kalman filter with unknown inputs (KF-UI) have been proposed. However, previous KF-UI approaches based solely on acceleration measurements are inherently unstable which leads to poor trackin...

Assessment of the conventional control algorithms and proposing a modified displacement feedback control for performance-based design of structures

An enhanced displacement feedback structural control procedure is presented for performance-based design in this paper. At first, a comparative study is implemented assessing three most common active control algorithms including state, acceleration, and displacement feedback controls. The advantage of the displacement feedback algorithm for active control of structures against earthquakes is de...

Stability assessment method for railroad bridges using acceleration and strain in combination

The stability of a railway bridge is mainly governed by level of acceleration, vertical displacement, and twist. While acquiring acceleration is relatively easy task in the data measurement respective, displacement and twist are very challenging due to lack of appropriate sensors. Furthermore, as most existing displacement sensors are confined to measuring single displacement, twist which is ob...

Development of a High Precision Displacement Measurement System by Fusing a Low Cost RTK-GPS Sensor and a Force Feedback Accelerometer for Infrastructure Monitoring

A displacement measurement system fusing a low cost real-time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) receiver and a force feedback accelerometer is proposed for infrastructure monitoring. The proposed system is composed of a sensor module, a base module and a computation module. The sensor module consists of a RTK-GPS rover and a force feedback accelerometer, and is installed on a target...
